Welcome everyone, I’m Laura Desiree. I think we can all agree that 2019 was boon year for cannabis. More states and countries legalized it and rather then debating whether it should be legal or not, we’re now talking about the BUSINESS of cannabis. There’s money to be made and a LOT of it. Here’s Madison with some numbers in Naked Goes Pot!
I know I talk a lot in this segment about weed being a crop on the GROW, especially in America, but 2019 REALLY proved it. Some of the numbers are still coming in, but it looks like FIVE states passed the BILLION dollar sales threshold last year.
Not surprisingly, California led the way, with a projected THREE BILLION PLUS, followed by Colorado and Washington. Florida, and Michigan rounded out the ten-digit club!
Even more impressive: those numbers for the last two states were just MEDICAL marijuana! So who knows how much people are REALLY spending there?! And when you consider Michigan added recreational use late in 2019, expect that number to SOAR this year!
So obviously weed is a huge part of the American economy… and that becomes even clearer when you’re talking employment! According to research from New Frontier Data, America’s cannabis industry directly employs at least A QUARTER OF A MILLION people! That’s roughly FIVE TIMES as many as work in coal mining… and about the same as those employed at steel and iron mills!
