Jack Dorsey, the founder of Twitter, has pledged ONE BILLION dollars towards global COVID-19 relief! Specifically, he’s promised a billion dollars’ worth of his equity in the payment app Square, and that’s a donation representing more than a quarter of his wealth! On top of that, he explained in a Twitter thread that when the pandemic is “disarmed”, the remaining funds will go towards girls’ health and education, and Universal Basic Income! Of course, I’m not sure this’ll cancel out all the harm Twitter does… but I’m still impressed!
“More than four out of five people in the global workforce are currently affected by full or partial workplace closures.” That’s just one of the key findings in a new study from the International Labour Organization, which also describes the coronavirus pandemic as “the worst global crisis since World War II.” According to its projections, 6-point-7 percent of working hours around the world will be eliminated in the second quarter of 2020. That’s the equivalent of nearly TWO HUNDRED MILLION full-time workers!
Okay, listen closely, everyone: There is no connection between the coronavirus and 5G technology! That may seem obvious, but this baseless conspiracy theory has gone wild on social media and resulted in real world consequences! Namely, multiple arson and vandalism attacks on several cellphone towers in the UK, many of which weren’t even delivering 5G! In a statement, Facebook has said it’s, quote, “taking aggressive steps to stop misinformation and harmful content from spreading on our platforms.” But we all need to do our part! Which is why I’m encouraging everyone watching: if you see someone spreading bad info online, say something!
