I’m not sure anyone’s surprised, ladies, but as you mentioned, it’s now official. According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the US is in a full blown recession due to the coronavirus pandemic. The economy peaked in February, which makes sense given that the shutdown started in March. Thus ends the longest economic expansion in U.S. history, one that dated back over a decade to President Barack Obama’s first year in office! Hopefully, we’ll all take a crack at beating that 128-month streak when all this is over!
If you’re now wondering if the shutdown was worth it, well, a new study suggests it prevented millions of new coronavirus cases! The study published in Nature estimates that in the United States alone, the measures taken prevented roughly Four-point-eight million confirmed COVID-19 infections… which of course translates to tens of millions more infections! As for the policies the researchers believe had the biggest impact, they include social distancing, home isolation, quarantining positive cases, business closures, and Work From Home.
One HUGE American industry seems set to restart: California Governor Gavin Newsom has given the green light for music, film and TV production to resume THIS FRIDAY! Now, to be clear, all productions will require the approval of local county public health officers, a lot of safety protocols will have to be in place, and many productions might hold off for now, if only to see what happens with OTHER productions. But it does reflect that California is moving into stage 3 of its recovery plan, and for now, I’ll take it! Stay tuned for more naked News.
