As you all know, it’s 364 days to my next birthday, so you’re likely asking yourself “What is there to even celebrate today?” Well, if you’re in China, you can celebrate a PARTIAL return to normalcy… though it didn’t exactly go off without a hitch. Eila’s in the Naked Newsroom with the story.
China has loosened some of its coronavirus restrictions… and not surprisingly, a popular tourist destination was quickly overwhelmed. Starting on Saturday, the provincial government of Anhui was offering free admission to 29 tourist sites… and on Sunday, it had to close access to many of them because they’d reached their daily limit of TWENTY THOUSAND visitors! Even though some precautions were taken, like guests having their temperatures taken before entering the site, looks like there are still some bugs to be worked out!
It’s rare that we have something nice to say about insurance companies, but we’re giving SOME praise to Allstate and American Family Insurance! The companies announced they’ll be refunding roughly eight hundred million dollars to their auto insurance policy-holders. And the reason is pretty simple, people just aren’t driving that much these days. Of course, with claims likely to be WAY down, these insurers should still come out ahead. It’s still a nice gesture though.
Here’s some news Shannon will love: Lady Gaga is a hero! Not only did she and the advocacy group Global Citizen raise THIRTY-FIVE MILLION dollars to fight the coronavirus, she’s about to throw a GIGANTIC party! One World: Together at Home is going down April 18th, and will feature Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Lizzo, John Legend, Eddie Vedder, and many more. It’ll be hosted by Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, and Jimmy Kimmel, which probably explains her recent pop-ups on ALL their shows! Can’t wait! It’ll be broadcast on NBC, ABC, CBS as well as streaming live on many platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. Lady Gaga was also very clear Laura, that this TV special will NOT be a fundraiser. You’re just supposed to, quote, “sit back and enjoy the show you deserve.”
Hey, if that’s what Lady Gaga has proclaimed, let it be so. What was that date again?
