Welcome to Naked News everyone, I’m Eila Adams. When the Mars Curiosity Rover launched on November 26, 2011, its mission was to explore the planet’s surface, seeking chemical and mineral evidence that Mars could once have supported microbial life. But, like any good tourist, Curiosity brought cameras! And because NASA knows that showmanship counts, especially where its budget is concerned, it’s shared some PHENOMENAL pictures, including recently a breathtaking panorama. Marina’s taking a closer look right now in Naked Goes Pop!
I’m not sure how many of us will ever get to Mars… but for now, NASA has given us the next best thing. It’s just shared the largest and highest resolution panorama the Curiosity Rover has ever captured. Made up of roughly twelve-hundred images taken over four days, the composite image contains 1-point-8 BILLION pixels!
I think you’ll agree, the images are brilliant and breathtaking! And with such high resolution and consistent lighting, the panorama can really make it feel like you’re virtually exploring the planet.
Especially as you zoom in and see details far in the distance. Like where lakes and streams ran billions of years ago… and also tracks Curiosity has made on the surface!
