Hello, everyone, and welcome once again to Naked News. I hope you’re all doing well. Social isolation continues in most parts of the world but as we saw with some protests this weekend, people are beginning to go a little stir crazy. Laura joins us now to give us some perspective.
Hi Eila, much as I miss the days when this opening talk would be gabbing about the weekend, social distancing is our reality for now… and unlike those protests you mentioned, it turns out MOST people are actually fine with it! Welcome to the newsroom everyone. According to two recent polls, social distancing enjoys MAJORITY support in America. In an NBC News / Wall Street Journal poll, fifty-eight percent of people said they were worried the restrictions would be lifted too quickly, versus just thirty-two percent who thought they’d be in place too long. Perhaps even more surprising, another survey found that while fifty-six percent of people thought the measures taken so far were reasonable, a full THIRTY-ONE percent thought they weren’t strict ENOUGH! Hope you’re paying attention, politicians!
In other news, you won’t see me on a plane any time soon… but if you do, you’ll be seeing less of me. As of now, all people traveling in or out of Canada by plane will be required to wear a mask or face covering. And that requirement is in place anywhere you can’t physically distance during your travel, including screening checkpoints. The other important thing to know: masks won’t be provided to you, so you’ll have to bring your own. Silver lining: you can think of it as an accessory!
And following Amazon’s lead of hiring 100 thousand new workers during this pandemic, WALMART, the world’s largest retailer, is hiring big time! With a big surge in demand for groceries and household essentials, the mega-retailer is looking to add FIFTY THOUSAND more workers to its ranks. Most of the positions will be temporary or part-time, but they could be literal lifesavers to many restaurant and hospitality workers who’ve been laid off.
