And I’m Cecelia Sommer. Well, by this time next week, we’re going to be talking about the Oscars! So, let’s ALL get a little warm-up in by talking about the SAG Awards!
It’s often a preview of what’s to come – and on that front, I’d say the biggest upset was Timothee Chalamet taking Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role! As for the tone of the night, not TOO political – though SAG President Fran Drescher and lifetime achievement award winner Jane Fonda both made impassioned speeches!
There were also fun moments, like when presenters Keke Palmer and Colman Domingo encouraged everyone who’d ever been in a Law & Order episode to take a drink – and practically the whole room had to! And the LINE of the night goes to presenter Jamie Lee Curtis, who TRULY said “And the Actor goes to the man that gave me COVID at the Golden Globes, Colin Farrell.”
Since they were gathered, I suspect some stars were talking about the big James Bond upheaval! Namely, how siblings and longtime producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli sold the intellectual property rights and creative control to Amazon! And now that the franchise has gone corporate, talk about who the NEXT Bond will be has heated up again!
And here’s a sign we’ve been having this conversation for awhile: Idris Elba now seems like a CONVENTIONAL choice! Though maybe not as conventional as Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Jonathan Bailey! However, if you’re inclined to put money on this, the current favorite is James Norton, best known for the BBC series Happy Valley!
Meanwhile, if Jeff Bezos is still shopping, he might consider the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ recorded music catalog. According to Billboard, the band is looking to move their recordings for roughly three hundred and fifty million dollars! Given that they sold their publishing rights back in 2021 for around a hundred and forty mill, this would bring the total value of their music assets to roughly half a billion dollars!
For comparison’s sake, that’d be roughly what Bruce Springsteen sold his catalog for a few years back, and about a hundred million more than Pink Floyd got. As for the richest deal ever for a music catalog, that’d be the nearly one-point-three BILLION Sony paid to Queen!
And speaking of “queens”, Paris Hilton recently celebrated her forty-fourth birthday like one! She decorated her Beverly Hills mansion in an OVERWHELMING amount of pink. And yes, hashtag-“sliv” was front and center, based on the Paris-ism “sliving”, a portmanteau of “slaying” and “living.”
Big names in attendance included Snoop Dogg, Sofia Vergara, Diplo, Jessica Alba, Kat Von D, and Sydney Sweeney! And it was interesting to see Sydney there – partially because it’s interesting to see Sydney ANYWHERE, but also because she’s been in the headlines recently for another reason!
According to TMZ, Sweeney has pushed back her impending wedding to restaurateur Jonathan Davino! It was originally scheduled for May, but the date now seems to be TBD.
But don’t get TOO excited, fellas! It’s almost certainly NOT a break-up, as “people in the know” are reporting that the delay is just because of their busy schedules!
